You'll be popular!

I really don't mean to be a blog downer, but I was wondering... why do people put "COUNTERS" on their blogs? Is blogging really a popularity contest? I was chatting with a friend that has a professional blog, and suggested that she put a counter on it so she can track the number of hits her business gets, then I got to thinking, why would someone put it on the personal blog? Especially if you are only blogging for "Journal" purposes? Does it make people feel that much better about themselves to know that they have a TON of hits? Maybe it does make people feel better to know that people are really interested in them and their lives. I know that if I had a blog counter it would read a 2 didget number, maybe starting with a 2 but probably not. Does that make me UN-popular? Their could be an innocent explanation to the whole issue, but I don't know what it is, and haven't been able to figure it out on my own. Does this make me a Blog dummy?

I saw these on lots of peoples blogs and put one on mine just to see if anyone was reading my blog. I use my blog as a journal kind of but more to be social and keep in contact with friends and family that live far away. Having a counter helps me to know if people are reading my blog still. If they are still reading then i will keep writing. Maybe it's dumb.

Good thought Kathy! I knew there had to be a good reason why. That makes total sense to me! Thank you!

I use to have a blog counter on my site (when I first started it) but took it off a while ago. I felt like you in the sense of this blogging thing is for me and my thoughts and my release, and I since don't really care who reads it or how many look at it. I'm fine with just me and the few that do read it. ha! BUT that being said, I did think it was cool to see my number rise daily and do see why people would like one on their blog.

I have a blog counter on my blog because not only does it count who visits, but it counts WHERE the visits are from. And since my blog is not set to private, this gives me a little bit of reassurance to make sure there aren't total psychos and random weirdos out there looking at it! I can see if they're clicking on my blog from a friend's blog or if they're randomly searching for me. And this makes me feel a little bit better about not having it private!

Also, even though it IS for journaling purposes, I like to see how many people actually read about what I'm writing. THAT, is kind of a part of my journal too! :) And it also is interesting to me to see which posts I get more hits on. It has absolutely nothing to do with being popular. Just curiosity about WHO is looking at my blog. And WHICH blogs they're interested in reading about.

Anyway, there are MANY reasons why people put counters on their blogs! :)

And oh man, now I'm going to have to go and explain this on my blog in case people think that I do it so that I can be "popular!" HA!

Love ya!

I don't see the reason why thebastians are so defensive. Wasn't this just a simple question not directed towards anyone in particuliar, generated by our conversation???? Other people provided a simple response that helped shed a little clarity on a subject that was obviously a little misunderstood. I don't know who thebastians are but I think you may have been getting yelled at by them. Then again the tone of a comment or should I say "the tone" of an explanation could be very misunderstood when it's written as opposed to being spoken. So if I've misunderstood something then I'm sorry...... :)

I guess I should apologize to Kirstynn for asking about blog counters I didn't realize that a simple question would fuel such a fire.

Woah - I wasn't yelling at Kirstynn at all! I thought you'd be able to tell that. Sorry if my typed words got misconstrued! I thought my response was pretty nice, actually! It makes me sad that you don't even know me and you're saying mean things about me! I was also just responding as to why I have a hit counter on my blog. I'm SO sorry to have offended anyone! Yikes!

WOw...I think chocolate does alot to calm the nerves. :) I'm just playing but these comments are little dramatic for the subject matter I would say. What is a blog counter anyway? I think it must be a personal preference...I guess I would be curious to know if other people besides my mom and totally cool chics that live in Howell ever read my blog but I write to write and my blog is more of a testimony of my beliefs and how that testimony grows because of my experiences. I just hope that whoever reads it can find some inspiration for their lives. Luvs ya!
Ps. So I am in need of someone to take some pictures of me in some of the dresses I have made and I was thinking that maybe you would like some practice on your new camera?? eh? Lemme know if you are interested and in reaturn I will help be a taste tester for your delicious creations :)
